Choosing Latin America
It is difficult for the first-year students to decide on a direction to study. Professor Viktoria Ivanovna Zhuravleva is doing a lot of explanatory work at the Department of American Studies of the Faculty of International Relations, Political Science and Foreign Regional Studies. One of her favorite directions is Brazil. On September the 2nd, a meeting of the first-year students who chose this direction took place at the International Russian-Brazilian Center. There they met a Brazilian woman, а RSUH PhD student with an amazing name, Vasili Blazhennaya, who told about the history of her name, the city where she came from, the languages of Brazil and her love for Russia.

2026
In June 2026, fifteen RSUH students (year 2 and 2) completed an internship at the International Center. The number of student interns has been growing year after year. This is due to the diversity of tasks, new information gained, and interest in Latin America in general.
In 2026, three students from the Department of General History, majoring in "History of International Relations: Russia and the World," joined the Institute of International Relations students.
As is traditional with internships, the students worked in three areas: academic (a lecture course on the history, culture, and economy of Brazil), research (continuing projects begun in 2024 and 2025), and organizational (preparing and hosting a famous Brazilian folklore festival at RSUH).
2024
During the internship, 14 students from the Department “Foreign Regional Studies - American Studies” became familiar with the political and economic aspects of the Federative Republic of Brazil, its history, culture and the Brazilian version of the Portuguese language. They also acquired skills in organizing international events and working in a team.
The students attended a number of lectures:
- Ethnic diversity of Brazil;
- Relations between Russia and Brazil;
- History and diversity of Brazilian music;
- Brazilian variant of Portuguese (5 Introductory hours).
The students completed the following tasks:
- Created and maintained telegram channel “Centro Internacional Russo-Brasileiro”;
- Developed the logo and templates of the International Russian-Brazilian Center;
- Assisted the International Forum “Days of Brazil at RSUH”;
- Performed at the Brazilian music concert.
