Participation of Brazilian Scholars in RGGU Humanitarian Readings – 2026

In April, the Russian State University for the Humanities launched the "RGGU Humanitarian Readings – 2026." Special mention should be made of the interest in this important scientific event shown by scholars from Brazil, who participated in the readings at the invitation of the Director of the International Russian-Brazilian Center, Associate Professor L.I. Baturina.

Three professors from partner universities participated in the Round Table "Manipulation in Media: Cognition and Communication in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," organized by the Scientific and Educational Center for Cognitive Programs and Technologies: Professor Adolfo Tanzi Neto from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) presented a report on "digital colonization" associated with the spread of digital content produced by global companies in poorer countries of the world. Professor Claudia Lobo, who works in the public education system, spoke about her project "Fact-Checking Laboratory and Combating Fake News and Cyberbullying," aimed at developing critical thinking and promoting safe digital practices among students. Professor Alberto Tornaghi from the UNIFASE University Center took an active part in discussing the Round Table reports. The International Russian-Brazilian Center actively collaborates with the South Asia Study Center under the leadership of Associate Professors A.A. Stolyarov and I.A. Gazieva, as well as with the Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL), particularly with Associate Professor V.A. Machechin. The discussion at the joint Round Table focused on artificial intelligence, law, and practical cases: "The Spread of Neural Network Fakes in BRICS Countries and Their Legislative Solutions." Brazil was represented by two speakers: Professor Luana Breyer, coordinator of the Law Faculty at the Lutheran University ULBRA, presented a report on "Algo-normative Expectations in the Post-Truth Era: Democratic Stability in Peripheral Countries." She discussed how the legal system processes societal irritation caused by artificial communication, analyzing real Brazilian cases of using artificial intelligence to activate authoritarian post-truth mentalities and instrumentalize authoritarian discourse. Sofia Dias, an undergraduate student at the Law Faculty of the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA), spoke about the Brazilian experience of the state approach to solving the problem of disinformation. Leading Brazilian scholars in the field of gender law created and distributed, at the request of the Brazilian government, the booklet "Disinformation: One Dimension of Gender Violence" (2025), which examines the negative impact of the spread of false news in daily life on Brazilian territory involving social networks, and how this practice affects women simply because of their gender. With each iteration, RGGU's scientific events attract increasing participation from Brazilian colleagues, indicating growing awareness of the Russian State University for the Humanities in Brazil.
