On September 20, Associate Professor Lyudmila Ivanovna Baturina, Director of the International Russian-Brazilian Center, was invited by the professor Fred Leite Campos of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) to give an open lecture to master students. These lectures were organized annually for the open university PROFNIT – open professional development courses from leading universities with the participation of professors, experts, and businessmen from both Brazil and internationally.
This was the second lecture to which the Director of the International Center has been invited. Last year, Lyudmila Ivanovna, together with a representative of the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow, First Minister Marcelo Bolke, spoke about the importance of humanities and the opportunities for studying in Russia.
This year, L.I. Baturina's lecture was conducted in Portuguese and was entitled "The Role of Narrative in the Development of Innovation. The Russian Innovation System." The lecture covered such issues as the importance of humanities expertise in creating an innovation narrative; case studies from Russia, the UAE, the US, China, and Brazil; and the distinctive features of the Russian innovation system, its strengths and weaknesses. It also explored innovative approaches at RSUH and opportunities for collaboration.
The PROFNIT Open University has existed in Brazil for nearly ten years and is very popular among both students and the public throughout the country. The Federal University of Santa Catarina, an active partner of RSUH, is one of the organizers. Fred Leite Campos, professor of the UFSC Faculty of International Economics, is an active member of the organizing committee. At UFSC, he founded the PRORUS course, where master's students study the history, economics, and culture of Russia.
It should be noted that open university traditions also exist in Russia. Moreover, it was Shanyavsky's Open University that laid the foundation for the Russian University for the Humanities (RSUH).
