International Russian-Brazilian Center of RSUH Participates in Discussions on Brazilian Television
Modern geopolitics extends far beyond traditional categories—resources, military alliances, and territorial disputes. In this context, academic cooperation becomes one of the forms of "soft geopolitics," where the main resource is the human being—the researcher, student, teacher, carrier of culture and knowledge.
The Research Laboratory of Latin American Relations with Russia (Ruslat), under the supervision of Professor, Dr. phil. Daniela Vieira Secches at the Pontifical Catholic University PUC (Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil), officially collaborates with the YouTube channel of renowned Brazilian journalist Luís Nassif, "Jornal GGN" (Grupo Gente Nova—"New People"). This independent media outlet is known for providing a platform for representatives of diverse views and opinions on a wide range of issues.
On the very eve of 2025, the Director of the International Russian-Brazilian Center, Associate Professor Lyudmila Baturina, participated in a public discussion on the geopolitics of academic cooperation between Russia and Latin America. During the hour-long conversation, the history of academic interaction, current challenges, and prospects for the development of cooperation were addressed.
Academic cooperation is a geopolitics centered on the human being. It creates sustainable connections capable of surviving political crises; fosters mutual understanding through personal experience; and shapes a new generation of global citizens who think in terms of dialogue rather than confrontation.
As Antonio Gramsci wrote: "History teaches that one can never rely solely on objective conditions—the subjective factor always proves decisive." In the academic environment, this factor is the researcher ready to reach across the ocean for the joint search for truth.
