Regional studies through history

Regional studies through history

The program is offered at the Faculty of Archival Studies at the Center for Regional History, Local History and Moscow Studies of the Institute of History and Archives.

The principle of continuity has had a long history and has always been the foundation of a genuine classical liberal arts education. In this sense, Regional Studies program is a tribute to the centuries-old tradition of higher education, it being the legacy of the Academy Member Sigurd Schmidt and other educators of renown. The uniqueness of our program rests on the general idea of classical education. This approach is reflected in the European tradition of “local history”. The concept was developed by the regional study experts: Dr. Schmidt, Professor Kozlov, and later continued by Dr. Kovaleva and Dr. Shokarev. A distinctive feature of the education of a modern historian is the need to have a professional classical component embedded in the general liberal arts and historical training. This gives our graduates a definite competitive advantage.
