American studies

The program is focused on the formation of comprehensive knowledge of the Americas, taking into account the understanding of the mechanisms of the mutual influence of regionalization and trans-regionalism, the processes taking place at the macro-regional, micro-regional and national levels in their relation to world political trends. The program combines a detailed study of history, socio-economic and cultural development, the political and legal system of the United States (core module), with classes on Canada and Latin America (optional modules) in a comparative context. Students master the skills of intercultural communication, forecasting and modeling processes taking place in the Western Hemisphere, and also learn English as the main language, with Spanish and French as second languages.

Key disciplines of the program: “Comprehensive international area studies”, “Regional aspects of international relations”, “International political analysis of regional and global processes”, “Theory and practice of intercultural communication”, disciplines on history, culture, economics, political and legal system, foreign policy of the USA, Canada, Latin American countries, as well as their role in modern world politics and international economic development.

Areas of occupation: academic research of international relations and global integrated area studies, state agencies engaged in organizational, communication, analytical and translation/interpreting activities to ensure diplomatic and cultural contacts between Russia and the United States, Canada and Latin America; expert and analytical centers and international organizations of various profiles, implementation of projects and programs for interaction with countries of the Western Hemisphere; international journalism.
