The course touches upon the following aspects in the English language description.

The systematic conception of language. The notion of system. The communicative principle in the consideration of language.

The definition of a sign, the specific nature of language signs and their types.

Language levels and language units. The correlation of word, phrase, sentence, utterance. Word as a basic nominative unit of language.

Parts of speech and their grammatical categories. Binary opposition in the description of grammatical phenomena.
