On November 17, a series of events was held at the Institute of History and Archives of RSUH on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Knorozov within the framework of the International Conference "The 11th Knorozov Readings: Civilizations of the New and the Old World". The organizer was Russian State University for the Humanities.
The events were attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Mr. Valery Falkov, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Scientific and Educational Policy Mr. Denis Sekirinsky, Chairman of the party "Fair Russia - Patriots - For Truth" Mr. Sergei Mironov, Director of the Sakhalin Regional Museum of Local Lore Dr. Yuri Alin, Rector Bezborodov, Director of the Knorozov Mesoamerican Center Dr. Galina Ershova as well as Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation for Science and Education Mr. Andrey Fursenko and Mayan writer and poet, laureate of literary awards Jorge Miguel Cocom Pech.
RSUH was represented by President Pivovar, Vice-Rector Pavlenko, Vice-Rector Shkarenkov, and Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Zabotkina.
The event was also attended by His Excellency Yuri Pavel Santacruz Perdomo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of El Salvador, His Excellency Juan Fernando Olguin Flores, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador, as well as representatives of the Embassies of Spain, Bolivia, Mexico, Venezuela.
As part of the ceremonial events, a memorial plaque was opened dedicated to Dr. Knorozov, historian, ethnographer, linguist who had deciphered the Mayan hieroglyphic writing.
“The success of Yuri Knorozov in deciphering Mayan writing is a true contribution to world science and culture. At the Institute of History and Archives of RSUH, his work is continued by his former student Dr. Galina Ershova, who founded the Knorozov Mesoamerican Center", the Rector noted.
Mr. Andrey Fursenko expressed gratitude to Minister Valery Falkov and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for the organization of the celebration and stressed the contribution provided by Dr. Ershova.
Minister Valery Falkov emphasized that due to the decree of President Putin on perpetuating the memory of Dr. Knorozov and celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, a series of events were taking place in Russia and abroad.
After the meeting, the solemn opening of the exhibition “The path of a scholar: the life and work of Dr. Knorozov" was held in the exhibition hall of the Knorozov Multimedia Historical and Cultural Center, which presented the work of students of the art studio "Art-Palette".
