The RSUH project “Interactive Atlas of the Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East” presents newly published unique materials. The platform now features a video recording of the Ulchi traditional dance mevkhu.
Mevkhu is a ritual drum dance performed during the ceremonial festival “buyumbé khopuvu” (the Bear Festival) before the start of shamanic practices. The dance is performed by Ekaterina Rosugbu, a student of the Herzen University Institute of the Peoples of the North. As an ethnomusician and member of the ethno-folk group “Para-ra,” she offers viewers an immersive look into the musical and ritual heritage of the Ulchi people. The video of the ritual dance is available on the website of the Atlas.
