Presentation of the project "Museum of African Liberation" held at RSUH

On November 3, RSUH hosted the presentation of the project Museum of African Liberation, where the signing of a cooperation agreement between the RSUH and the Institute for African Studies (Harare, Zimbabwe) took place.

The ceremony was attended by Rector Bezborodov, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Hon. Natalia Bocharova, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation on Science, Education and Culture, Head of the Cooperation Group of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe Ms. Lyudmila Skakovskaya, Deputy Head of the Department of Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Andrey Polyakov, Head of the Department of Education and Science of Rossotrudnichestvo Mr.Vadim Zaichikov, students and faculty of RSUH.

The Zimbabwean side was represented by Mr. Mupanisi Dzapasi, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the Russian Federation, Dr. Kwame Muzawazi, Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mr. Partson Chikudza, Chief of Protocol of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and other officials.

The ceremony was also honored by the visit of Mr. Jose Mateus Muaria Katupha, Ambassador of Mozambique to Russia, Mr. Kashuupulwa Clemens Handuukeme, Ambassador of Namibia to Russia, Mr. Moses Kizige, Ambassador of Uganda to Russia, as well as representatives of the Embassies of Guinea, Tanzania, Chad, the Republic of South Africa in Russia.

The event was opened by Dr. Alexander Bezborodov. The Rector noted that the best museologists of RSUH were participating in the creation of the expositions of the Museum of African Liberation, and the IT specialists of the university would implement its technological projects.

Hon. Natalya Bocharova pointed out that the idea of creating Museum of African Liberation had been announced during the official visit of the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Hon.Valentina Matvienko to the Republic of Zimbabwe in June 2022. She mentioned that in the coming years, admission quota spots for Russian universities would be increased for citizens of the African continent.

Dr. Lyudmila Skakovskaya, Head of the Cooperation Group of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Zimbabwe, emphasized that RSUH was one of the leaders of RAFU consortium.

 Mr. Mupanisi Dzapasi indicated that the event was the result of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe on cooperation in the field of scientific, scientific, technical and innovative activity. He emphasized that affordable higher education in Russia for students from the African continent contributed to mutual understanding and building trust and respect between the peoples of Russia and Zimbabwe.

Dr. Kwame Muzawazi said: “Relations between Africa and Russia, and in particular between Russia and Zimbabwe, were born in their joint struggle and victories. The signing of an agreement with RSUH is a continuation of this unbreakable bond and brotherhood.”

Dr. Vadim Zaichikov, Head of the Department of Education and Science of Rossotrudnichestvo, spoke about the special role of the development of cooperation between Russia and African states in the field of education, science and economics.

After welcoming words and speeches, a solemn ceremony of signing an agreement between the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Institute for African Studies took place.

Russian State University for the Humanities became the Institute's first Russian partner in the creation of the Museum of African Liberation.
