“We pass the flame to future generations”: the III Youth Forum of Slavic Universities has begun at RSUH

At RSUH, representatives of Slavic universities gathered to discuss how to preserve the sacred memory of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and pass it on to youth as a foundation for building the future.

The III Youth Forum of Slavic Universities at RSUH has commenced. This year’s event is timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The main theme is youth policy and historical memory. In addition to RSUH’s representatives, the forum includes invited scholars from BRU, KRSU, RAU, and RTSU. At the opening, RSUH’s Academic Director Efim Pivovar read a greeting from the Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Konstantin Mogilevsky.

Dr. Pivovar emphasized that Russian and Slavic universities shared a common historical memory and that the greatest and most sacred unifying event of that memory remained our shared Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at RSUH, Vera Zabotkina, added that the Forum made a significant contribution to building a new multipolar world.

On the first day of the Forum, plenary and sectional sessions are planned. Participants will discuss how universities can engage with historical memory, as well as consider the place of history and cultural heritage in the lives of modern students.

On the second day, lectures and master classes will be organized, led by top specialists from the Institute of Eurasian and Oriental Studies, the International Institute of New Educational Technologies, RSUH Museum Center, the RAS Institute of General History, and the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“Slavic universities” are the institutions established on the basis of inter-governmental agreements between Russia and Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Tajikistan.
