A Key to an Entire Era: A Dictionary of Soviet Science Presented at RSUH

The Center for the History of Russian Science and Scientific and Technological Development at RSUH has presented a new reference publication — the dictionary “Soviet Science in the Key Concepts of the Era.”

The team of authors offers readers not merely a terminological reference, but a true “map” of the scientific and technological era.

The publication explains the key phenomena of Soviet science, including:

• how design bureaus differed from factory laboratories;
• how the scientific instrument-making industry developed and how graduate education functioned;
• why research-and-production associations were created;
• how the USSR attempted to build its own version of the internet.

The dictionary demonstrates the complex, multi-layered structure of Soviet science, as well as the enduring role of its legacy in shaping Russia’s contemporary scientific and technological potential.
