Collection of documents “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians” was presented at RSUH

On December 20, a presentation of the collection “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians” took place at RSUH

This book, prepared by RSUH in collaboration with the Federal Archival Agency, analyzes the linguistic, historical and cultural relationships between Russia and Ukraine, illustrating the common historical destiny of both peoples.

It elaborates upon the main theses of the article by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin “On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians”.

Rector Bezborodov opened the event by saying:

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the directors of the federal archives for the titanic work they did in creating the collection. … Each of the documents presented in it is of great importance for a deeper understanding and analysis of the current situation and its prerequisites”.

Director of the Federal Archival Agency, Andrei Artizov, under whose leadership the publication was developed, told the event participants about how the idea of creating a collection appeared and developed.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, graduate of RSUH Konstantin Mogilevsky noted: “Today’s presentation is the result of cooperation between RSUH, the Institute of History and Archives and the Federal Archival Agency. These steps are important to ensure that we become even more effective in terms of training specialists for the archival industry and addressing the academic challenges facing this industry”.

The Academic Director of the Institute of General History of the RAS, Alexander Chubaryan, in his opening speech, emphasized the importance of the presented publication for developing approaches to the development of relations and building interaction between Russia and Ukraine.

Other people making speeches at the event were State Duma Deputy Anastasia Udaltsova, President Pivovar, Head of the Department of War History and Military Art of the Military Academy Yuri Botev and Rector of the Kuindzhi Mariupol State University Larisa Sivolap.

The collection contains information about the Battle of Konotop in June 1659, the defense of Glukhov in January 1664, about Kharkov University, the preparation of the Valuevsky circular of 1863 and the publication of the Emsky decree in 1876, Ukrainophilemovement at the beginning of the twentieth century and the Ukrainization of schools in Carpathian Rus, as well as Ukraine’s desire for autonomy during the Russian revolution.
