Tony Lin’s piano concert held in the Central Hall

The concert “Spring Inspiration” was held as part of the project “Someone in the Central Hall”, on March 5, 2020. The Student Affairs Department and the Russian - American Center helped organize the event. This was Tony Lin’s fourth concert at our university. The first one took place in 2013.

Tony Lin is a unique person. He does not consider himself a professional pianist, although he began playing the piano at the age of five and graduated from the Northwestern University’s School of Music. Tony is a multiple recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Arts Excellence Award. He defended his dissertation on the perception of Chopin in Polish and Russian culture and literature. He taught Russian and Polish languages and Russian literature at Connecticut College, the University of Pittsburgh and is currently teaching in Boston College, where he is coordinator of the Slavic Languages Studies.

Tony loves our university and the white grand piano in the Central Hall. His program included:

• Schubert, Sonata for piano in A minor, D. 784;

• Scriabin, Sonata for piano No. 5 in F Sharp Major, Op. 53;

• Chopin, Scherzo No. 2, in B Flat Minor, Op. 31;

• Prokofiev, Etude in D Minor, Op. 2 No. 1.

At the end of the concert, Tony, together with Alexander Zabrodin (cello), a student of the History Department of Moscow State University, performed Arutiunian's Impromptu for cello and piano.

The concert was a success. Listeners enjoyed the magical music and the professional performance of Tony. We are thankful to Tony Lin for the concert and look forward to new meetings at our University.
