RSUH students visited the Embassy of Sudan

On February 7, a meeting of a group of students of RSUH studying the Arabic language with Mr. Nadir Yousef Babiker, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the Russian Federation, was held at the Embassy of Sudan.

It took place at the initiative of Mr. Ambassador himself, who had visited RSUH and met with the representatives of the governing body of the university. For the majority of students, this was not only the first experience of direct communication with the ambassador of a foreign state, but their first chance to speak Arabic with a native speaker.

At the beginning of the meeting, the ambassador spoke about his country, its geography, history and the specifics of the Russian-Sudanese relations. He answered the questions of the students about the life of the Sudanese youth, as well as the education and the sociocultural situation in the country. The ambassador promised to help students to visit the country; such a visit would certainly help them learn a lot of new things not only about Sudan, but also about the whole Arab world. All of the 17 students introduced and spoke about themselves. The conversation was held at a round table with confectionery and nuts, coffee, tea, juices, and most importantly — the national Sudanese hibiscus tea, called the «Sudanese rose.»

The meeting was organized by Dr. Eleanor Kormysheva, Director of the Golenishchev Center for the Study of Ancient Civilizations of Egypt and Sudan. Dr. Kormysheva thanked the Sudanese diplomat for an interesting evening. Dr. Medvedko, senior researcher, Associate Professor of the Department of International Security and Head of the program Russian Humanitarian Mission in the Middle East, noted that for many students the meeting was «the first real acquaintance with the Arab world, the door to which was opened by the Ambassador of Sudan».
