On February 28, 2020, the Conference "Profession - Culturologist II" was held at the Faculty of Culturology of RSUH. The conference was attended by faculty and students of Russian universities, freelance experts in the field of culture (tutors, bloggers), representatives of organizations working in the field of culture (museums, libraries).
The first part of the conference ("Cultural studies and their professional status") was dedicated to the academic view of the educational program and the employment prospects for its graduates. This part of the conference hosted a presentation by representatives of leading universities, who are developing a training program for the major of culturology.
In the report made by Dr. Galina Zvereva, Chair of the Department of History and Theory of Culture, it was pointed out that universities around the world are training future cultural studies specialists, with competencies similar to those of the Culturology major in Russian universities. However, if in foreign universities the competencies follow the demand of the labor market, in Russia the employment demands are replaced by the requirements made by bureaucratic structures.
