The School opened its doors on October 24. The topic was “Science in history: evolution of academic thought, ideas and authors”.
Dr. Borisov, Head of the Research Department and Dr. Dolgova, Chair of the Council of Young Scientists, gave welcoming speeches, saying that the School would continue operating in the future.
Undergraduate and graduate students from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Omsk, Vologda and Samara, worked in the sections “Science as a social project”, “Technical knowledge through the eyes of the society”, “Practical application of philosophy” and “Interdisciplinary approaches in historical research”.
Dr. Olga Valkova, Professor at the Vavilov Institute for History of Science and Technology, made a presentation on the first women scientist, Dr. Andrey Volodin, Professor at the Department of Historical Informatics at the MSU, talked on the subject of computer revolution in historical studies. Dr. Aleksey Kilichenkov, Professor at the Department of the History of Russia of Modern Times of RSUH, gave an interactive lecture on the “mental confrontation” in WWII.
Dr. Evgeniya Dolgova made a presentation on interdisciplinary triangulation in the early Soviet period, followed by the presentation on the subject of Soviet science in 1950-1956 made by Dr. Vitaly Tikhonov, Professor at the Institute of Russian history at the RAS.
The second day of the School was concluded by a tele-lecture delivered by Dr. Maria Fedorova-Warden (Maсalester College, USA), who spoke on Fullbright Program and the US academic system.
