Dr. Meiman spoke about the first Dutch newspaper, the handwritten “Courante” that had begun its publishing in 1618, and explained why it had been the Netherlands that had given rise to the first newspapers. She spoke on trade, the demand for information, first newsagents, and all that had led to emergence of the first printed newspaper in 1620.
It is worth saying that th favorite newpaper of Peter the Great was “Haarlem Courantos”, routinely translated by Posolsky Prikaz.
