The exhibition shows works by a military correspondent Viktor Khabarov. It commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Soviet troops‘ withrawal from Afghanistan. It has been organized by the Press Center and the Museum Center of RSUH. On the same day RSUH hosted the round table “Military conflict in Afghanistan as seen by experts, diplomats, armed forces and journalists”.
70 unique photos form the core of the exhibition. Rector Bezborodov said in the welcoming speech that the Afghanistan period had been a complex and sad one for the USSR yet the professionalism of the photos showed that the troops were composed of people truly serving their country.
President Pivovar pointed out that national memory existed independently of expert assessment and that the Afghan war a a subject worthy of further research and respect.
Vice-Rector Pavlenko said that the Afghan War had been one of the most penetrating moments in Russian history.
Mr. Konarovsky, former Ambassador of the RF to Afghanistan (2002-2004), shared his memory and experience.
Viktor Kabarov himself spoke on his trips to Afghanistan and the photoprinting method he employed.
Mr. Belyanchev, Deputy Editor of “Vechernyaya Moskva, said that such photos were invaluable from the perspective of continuity and it was through such media that the younger generation should be educated.
The round table hosted, among other things, a presentation by Dr. Khristoforov, corresponding member of the RAS, Chair of the Department of International Security at RSUH, on the subject of Russian special forces in Afghanistan.
The exhibition will be open till Marth 14.
