International conference “The Revolution of 1917 and the Russian émigré community” was held in RSUH with the support of the “History of the Fatherland” Foundation
The event took place 15 November 2017, organized by the Institute of post-Soviet and Inter-regional Research of RSUH. The participants included over 70 students and faculty of RSUH and other universities, including a group of young researchers from the CIS countries. Experts from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Uzbekistan.
This particular project is unique in its goal, which is expansion of cooperation with foreign experts in the analysis of the events of 1917.
President Pivovar opened the Conference with a speech in which he analyzed revolutionary processes of 1917, development of states and nations, emigration processes. He said that only close cooperation could lead to the development of objective research methods and decrease the conflict element in various interpretations of a historic event.
Dr. Tkachuk, President of the University “Higher School of Anthropology”, spoke on the subject of the restoration syndrome in Moldova. Dr. Shevtsov, Head of the Center for European Integration, spoke on the subject of Belorussian cultural development after 1917. Dr. Sabirov, Deputy Chairman of the Society of Historians of Uzbekistan, spoke on the subject of Turkestan in 1917. Dr. Akhmedova, of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, spoke on the subject of the implications of the 1917 Revolution in Azerbaijan, Dr. Malysheva, Dean of the School of Archive Studies at RSUH, spoke on the subject of regional public institutions in 1917.
Dr. Lanskoy, Dean of the School of Document Studies and Technotronic Archives, spoke on images of the second revolution in émigré historiography. Dr. Petrovsky, Head of the Nomos Center, spoke on the new interpretation of the Relovution in Belarus. Dr. Mashrapov, Dean of the School of Oriental Studies and International Relations of the Karasaev Humanities University in Bishkek, spoke on the subject of influence of the Revolution in Kyrgyzstan. Dr. Nadezhuk, of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, spoke on the subject of Mustafa Shokay. Dr. Djafargulieva, of the Department of Azerbaijani Multiculturalism at Baku Slavic University, spoke on the subject of the phenomenon of tolerance in the context of political turmoil in Azerbaijan in the 1918-1920s.
The Conference also hosted a session of an international expert group that took a decision to form a network model in order to enhance coordination in the area of cooperation between the CIS countries. The group pointed out the importance of the joint Russian-Kazakh monograph on modern history and geopolitics in Central Asia, authored by experts from RSUH, al-Farabi University, KIMEP University and Gumilyov Eurasian University.
