RSUH and Girijananda Chowdhury University brought together traditional wisdom and scientific knowledge at an international conference on January 22,2026

The International Conference on “Bridging Sacred Wisdom and Scientific Vision: Re-envisioning Knowledge Discourses from Global Perspectives with Emphasis on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)” was held on 23 January 2026 at Girijananda Chowdhury University,  Guwahati, Assam, India.

The conference was organized by the Research & Development Cell, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Assam, in collaboration with the Centre for South Asian Studies, Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, and Mari State University, Russia.

 

The session began with the Lighting of the Lamp and the Russian, Indian, and GCU Anthems.

 

Welcoming address was delivered by:

Shri Jasodaranjan Das, President, SSA Society, welcomed the gathering, followed by insightful addresses from Professor Jayanta Deka, Chancellor, and Professor Kandarpa Das, Vice Chancellor.

The Chief Guest, Professor Amarendra Kumar Das, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University, highlighted collaborative knowledge creation, while Guest of Honour Ms. Ekaterina Tyurina, Vice Consul, Consulate General of Russian Federation in Kolkata, emphasized strong India–Russia academic ties.

The keynote by Professor Alexander Stolyarov, Russian State University for the Humanities, offered deep insights into the Indian Knowledge System and its global relevance.

A powerful beginning to two days of scholarly dialogue and cultural exchange.

 

Expanding the Horizons of Knowledge at GCU

 

The international conference “Bridging Sacred Wisdom and Scientific Vision” at Girijananda Chowdhury University featured three engaging plenary sessions showcasing interdisciplinary and global scholarship.

Plenary I, “Indian Knowledge Systems at a Glance,” chaired by Dr. Aditya Kiran Kakati, included insights from Dr. Vaidyanath Nishant, Dr. Sanjib Kr. Borkakati, Dr. Sidharth Shankar, and Prof. Nivedita Das Kundu.

Plenary II, “Shaping Tomorrow,” chaired by Dr. Siddharth Shankar, hosted Prof. Mikhail V. Dubinin and Prof. Konstantin N. Belosludtsev from Mari State University, along with Dr. Andrey Konkov from Sirius University.

 

Plenary III, “The Human Quest for Meaning,” chaired by Dr. Sanjib Kr. Borkakati, featured Mr. Om Dhungel, Prof. V. Krishna Ananth, and Dr. Aditya Kiran Kakati.

 

A hybrid Parallel Session on Indian Culture and Civilization further enriched the academic exchange.

The second day of the International Conference on “Bridging Sacred Wisdom and Scientific Vision: Re-envisioning Knowledge Discourses from Global Perspectives with Emphasis on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)” was held on 23 January 2026 at Girijananda Chowdhury University, Azara, Hathkhowapara, Guwahati – 781017, Assam, India.

 

 

The Day 2 sessions featured multiple academic activities, including oral presentations and poster presentations. In the poster presentation category, a total of 47 posters were presented by researchers from various institutions. The posters were evaluated by an expert panel comprising Prof. Bipul Nath, Royal Global University, Assam, and Dr. Akshay Chandra Deka, Regional College of Health Sciences, Assam.

Based on the evaluators’ assessment, the Poster Presentation Awards were conferred as follows: First Prize to Ratul Kalita (Girijananda Chowdhury University), Second Prize to Hrishikesh Bordoloi (Dibrugarh University), and Third Prize to Binita Chakraborty (Assam Down Town University).

The poster session on the second day provided a vibrant platform for scholarly exchange and effectively reflected the interdisciplinary vision of the conference by integrating traditional knowledge systems with contemporary academic perspectives. 

The second day of the International Conference on “Bridging Sacred Wisdom and Scientific Vision: Re-envisioning Knowledge Discourses from Global Perspectives with emphasis on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)”, held on 23 January 2026, offered a thoughtful and engaging exploration of the interdisciplinary dimensions of IKS through parallel offline and online technical sessions.

The morning parallel sessions, chaired by Dr. Prafulla Nath, Dr. Akshay Chandra Deka, Prof. Sunayan Bordoloi, and Prof. Eeshan Kalita, focused on diverse themes including Indigenous Practices and Innovation, Natural Sciences, Allied Health and Pharmacy, and Ecology and Sustainable Development. These sessions highlighted the meaningful integration of traditional wisdom with contemporary scientific approaches to promote sustainability, conservation, and innovation.

The mid-day sessions addressed State, Polity and Governance under the chairmanship of Prof. Shantanu Chakravarty, Human Society: Traditional and Recent Developments chaired by Prof. Gour Gopal Banik, and Natural Sciences, Allied Health and Pharmacy led by Prof. Bhupen Kalita. Scholarly deliberations reflected varied perspectives on governance, social transformation, education, biomedical research, AI-enabled healthcare, and in-silico studies.

The conference concluded with a dignified Valedictory Session. Dr. Damiki Laloo, Conference Director, delivered the opening address, followed by the felicitation of sponsors and dignitaries from collaborating institutions. The conference report was presented by Dr. Prakash Khundrakpam, and prizes were awarded for the poster competition. Feedback from Dr. Andrei Konkov and scholars enriched the proceedings. Concluding reflections were offered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kandarp Kr. Das, and the Chancellor, Prof. Jayanta Deka. The programme ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.
