RSUH organized an international roundtable on translation discourse in India (January 21, 2026)
On January 21, 2026 an International roundtable discussion dedicated to the translation studies of Russian and Hindi literature was held at Samrat Vikramaditya University in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh, India).
The event was organized jointly with the Department of English and foreign languages of Vikram University, the Russian House in New Delhi and the Institute of linguistics of the Russian State University for the Humanities (Moscow, Russia).
The topics of the round table also included the study of the Russian language in India and the problems of translating Russian and Indian classics into world languages.
Vice-Chancellor of Vikram University, Professor Arpan Bhardwaj, noted in his welcoming speech that the study of the Russian language has been continuously conducted at this educational institution since 1958. During the Soviet Union period many teachers of the Russian often came here and trained many Indian specialists for further education in Russia.
The Vice-chancellor also emphasized that he is a graduate of Professor Uma Parihar's course, who worked at the university for 33 years, and expressed gratitude to his mentor for the knowledge received. He confirmed the intention to continue expanding cooperation with the Russian House in New Delhi and Russian universities in order to attract more students studying the Russian language for subsequent studies in Russia.
Ms Ekaterina Dynyak, Director of the Pushkin Institute of Russian language of the Russian House in New Delhi noted that Russian House in New Delhi supports teachers in India who are teaching Russian for students and strives to provide them with textbook sets, copies of classical and modern Russian literature, flags, maps of Russia, and souvenir products to visualize the educational process.
Professor Anjana Pandey, head of the English and foreign languages Department told participants about the history of the department and its translation activities, emphasizing that the department actively supports the future cooperation with RSUH.
Dr. Indira Gazieva, Hindi teacher at RGGU, talked about how translation work is carried out at the Institute of Linguistics of the RSUH and about the challenges faced by students learning Hindi as their main language.
Students of both universities presented their translations of Russian and Indian poetry into Russian, Hindi, and other languages, as well as their own authorial translations of Pushkin's works into Hindi.
Professor Uma Parihar presented an overview of translations of Russian literature from the 18th century to the present day.
Professor Badruddin Hasan shared his experience of studying and working in Russia and at Vikram University.
The event devoted to the study and promotion of the Russian language in India was covered in Indian newspapers "Patrika" and "Nayi Duniya."
