Pushkin's tales began to be heard in Indian languages on November 22, 2025 at the RSUH

International Online Literary Festival "Translations of Alexander Pushkin's Fairy Tales into the World Languages" was held at the Russian state university for the humanities (RSUH) on November 22, 2025.

The event was jointly organized by:

Savitribai Phule University of Pune (Pune, Maharashtra, India)

Russian House in Mumbai (Mumbai, Maharashtra, India)

Vikram University (Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India)

University of Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India)

Mahatma Gandhi University Kashi (Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India)

Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalay (Wardha, Maharashtra, India)

 

The event was attended by 50 students from RSUH and several Indian universities, who recited fairy tales by Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in their own translations into Marathi, Hindi, English, Malayalam, and Bhojpuri.

The goal of the event was to introduce students to the world of Alexander Pushkin's poetry by deepening their knowledge of a foreign language and developing an understanding of translations of the famous Russian poet's poetry into various languages.

Before reciting the translations of Pushkin’s fairy tales, the students listened to a lecture “Fundamental Aspects of Poetic Translation” delivered by Dr. Anwar Ahmad Siddiqui, Associate Professor, Department of Translation Studies, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University (Wardha, Maharashtra, India).

Ketaki Srivastava. Recitation of Alexander Pushkin's fairy tale “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish” translation into Marathi (translated by Dr. Anagha Bhat-Behere).

1. Priyanshi Yadav, BA 3rd year. Recitation the author's translation of Pushkin's fairy tale "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" in Bhojpuri.

2. Sundari Maurya, Advanced Diploma. Recitation the author's translation of Pushkin's fairy tale "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" in Hindi.

Aishwarya Aish. Recitation the author's translation of A.S. Pushkin's "The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights" into Malayalam.

Aryalekshmi. Recitation the author's translation of A.S. Pushkin's "The Tale of the Golden Cockerel" into Malayalam.

Adul Anilakrishna. Recitation the author's translation of A.S. Pushkin's "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" into Malayalam.

Vikram University (Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India)

Teacher: Nisha Chaurasia, Department of English and Other European Languages

Student: Atharva Vyas. Recitation A.S. Pushkin's Fairy Tales "About the She-Bear" in Russian.

 

Third-year students from the Hindi group at the Institute of Linguistics read original Hindi translations of Pushkin's fairy tale "The Bridegroom" by Alina Zvyagintseva, Elena Shah, and Margarita Eramlyuk.

 

At the end of the event, Professor Sergei Serebryany, Director of the E.M. Meletinsky Institute for Advanced Studies expressed his opinion on the student translations of Pushkin's fairy tales.
