Young scholars discussed folklore studies and cultural anthropology

On March 5–7, 2020, the Sixth International Conference of Young Scholars “Folklore Studies and Cultural Anthropology Today”, organized by the Center for Typology and Semiotics of Folklore, was held at RSUH.

Eighteen presentations of young scholars from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, Vladivostok, Ulan-Ude and Kazan were delivered at the conference. The conference participants were undergraduate and graduate students of RSUH, the HSE, Perm State University, the University of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg State University, the Far Eastern Federal University, the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography and other educational institutions.

The subjects of the presentations ranged from transformation of traditional ceremonies to weddings and funerals to modern folklore texts and practices; from Monstration to amateur regulatory announcements to the texts of city witches.

In addition to the presentations, lectures were read by the leading faculty members of the Center for Typology and Semiotics of Folklore: Dr. Sergey Neklyudov, Dr. Elena Levkievskaya, Dr. Nikita Petrov.

In 2021, following the results of the conference, a collection of articles will be published in Vestnik RGGU.
