Traditional Sámi Singing “Luvv’t” Added to RSUH Interactive Atlas Digital Collection

The RSUH project “Interactive Atlas of the Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East” continues its work to preserve unique cultural heritage. The platform now features new materials introducing viewers to the Sámi singing tradition known as “luvv’t”.

The following representatives of the Sámi Public Organization of Murmansk Region participated in filming: the ensemble “Elle,” performer Ivan Matrekhin, and the family group “Sam’ parna.”

Luvv’t is a special form of improvisational singing without musical accompaniment, traditionally performed during work or travel. Each Sámi person had their own melody, reflecting their inner state and mood.

The Interactive Atlas, coordinated by RSUH and the Association of Small-Numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East, is a large-scale resource for preserving and popularizing cultural heritage.

You can listen to the unique Sámi singing on the Interactive Atlas website.
