On June 3, 2025, a session of the Russian side of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Peace, Friendship, and Development was held in Moscow. The Education Council of the Committee is chaired by Sergey Shakhrai, Director of the Institute of Law at RSUH. The Chinese co-Chair of the Council is Professor Zheng Xinye, Vice-Rector of Renmin University of China.
During the session, Dr. Shakhrai presented the Council’s work plan for 2025. One of the key upcoming events will be an international conference on the challenges of liberal arts education and research in Chinese and Russian universities, which will be held at RSUH.
A significant issue in the development of higher education in Russia and China is Russia’s withdrawal from the Bologna system. As a result, durations of study, curricula, and academic programs in Russia and China are now misaligned. This situation requires urgent resolution to prevent disruption of dual degree programs and joint education programs between Russian and Chinese partner universities. In response, a Working Group of the Education Council has been established in Beijing to address these issues, underscoring the importance of Russian-Chinese cooperation.
Additionally, the Education Council will organize competitions for teachers of Russian language in Chinese schools and for teachers of Chinese language in Russian schools.
The Council’s agenda also includes events on the use of digital technologies, the creation of a dedicated digital platform for student exchanges, and a major forum for engineering universities of Russia and China.
The Chinese side of the Committee for Peace, Friendship, and Development is headed by Li Hongzhong, a Politburo member of the CPC Central Committee and First Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The Russian side is led by Boris Titov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Relations with International Organizations to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals. The next plenary meeting of the Committee will take place in early September in Vladivostok as part of the Eastern Economic Forum.
