RSUH became a co-organizer of the First National Forum of History Teachers in Tobolsk

On October 7, 2022, Tobolsk hosted the First National Forum of History Teachers and an expanded session of the Expert Council for the Development of History Education under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Forum was organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Russian Historical Society, RSUH and Tyumen State University.

The event was attended by Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Dr. Sergey Naryshkin, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Mr. Valery Falkov, Chairman of the Board of the Society Dr. Konstantin Mogilevsky, Governor of the Tyumen Region Mr. Alexander Moor, Director of the Institute of Russian History of the RAS Dr. Yuri Petrov, President of RSUH Dr. Efim Pivovar, and other experts and scholars.

During the work of the first round table, a professional and public discussion of the Concept for Teaching Russian History for Non-Historical Majors and Specialties was launched.

The work of the second round table was devoted to the discussion of the methodological support for teaching history in higher educational institutions. Also, as part of the discussion, a prototype of the state electronic library system in history for higher education was presented, created at the suggestion of the Russian Historical Society by the Nauka publishing house.

In the format of a round table, a meeting of the Youth Club of the Russian Historical Society was held, where the role of student media and the topic of mentoring in the system of higher historical education were discussed, with the participants sharing their experience in teaching history students at different levels of education.

The second part of the Forum included an extended session of the Expert Council for the Development of History Education, devoted to discussing issues of popularizing historical knowledge, countering attempts to falsify Russian history and forming common approaches to interpreting historical events, developing effective communication and interaction in the teaching environment, and creating discussion platforms for young historians.

The meeting of the Expert Council was opened by the Chairman of the Society Dr. Sergey Naryshkin. He noted: “The main thing to remember is that we have one goal, namely the education of a citizen who is aware of his involvement in the history of Russia, who feels his responsibility for its present and future.”

Minister of Science and Higher Education Mr. Valery Falkov pointed out that a lot of work had been done to support historical science and develop historical education: “This is not just a major or its Liberal Art component, even in the training of specialists in the field of engineering and technical or exact sciences. The role of history and historical knowledge is what makes a person unique. Along with one’s professional knowledge, one forms a worldview, a value framework and, of course, forms a personality.”
