RSUH in Morocco: New Prospects

On June 30, Acting Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of RSUH Vera Zabotkina met with Vladimir Sokolov, representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The central topic of discussion was the potential expansion of the Russia–Morocco humanitarian dialogue, the development of cultural and educational programs, and support for interest in the Russian language and culture among Moroccan youth.

In addition, the participants discussed developing a multilingual format for lectures. The possibility of using hybrid language models — with translation of Russian-language presentations into Arabic — was considered the most effective approach given the region’s cultural specificity. Both parties agreed this approach would not only increase local audience engagement but also stimulate deeper interest in the Russian language and culture through direct participation in humanitarian dialogue.

The idea of encouraging Moroccans to study Russian in Morocco is a very good one. Let me share an observation: English-language lectures, despite their excellence, generate less interest than Russian-language lectures translated into the host language. We had such an experience with Portuguese, and I believe it should be repeated with Arabic,” said Vera Zabotkina.

One of the proposed areas of cooperation was organizing joint events targeted at the creative and academic communities.

We propose to establish a Youth Day format to unite the student communities of both countries and, through this kind of synthesis, offer options for studying in Russia — by sending you young artists, musicians, performers, and DJs. We are open to any proposals for cooperation in this direction,” said Vladimir Sokolov.

During the meeting, the possibility of organizing Moroccan Culture Days at RSUH was discussed, along with the participation of university professors in events held by the Russian House in Rabat and the implementation of educational initiatives aimed at familiarizing the Moroccan audience with Russian scientific and cultural heritage.

Additionally, the participants discussed cooperation in the area of historical memory and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Russian diaspora in Morocco. Special attention was given to initiatives aimed at documenting and studying the experiences of Russian communities that have lived in the country for nearly a century. Representatives of RSUH expressed their willingness to contribute to this work by involving university specialists in research and cultural-educational projects.
