RSUH Professor Usachev Wins the RAS Solovyov Gold Medal

On May 30, 2025, at the General Session of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Professor of the Department of History and Theory of Historical Science at the Faculty of History Andrei Usachev was awarded the Solovyov Gold Medal for 2024 for his monograph “Book Writing in Russia in the 16th Century: Based on Dated Colophons. Vols. 1–2”.

The Solovyov Gold Medal is the highest award of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the field of historical sciences, awarded “for significant contribution to the study of history”. It was established in 1994 and is awarded once every five years to leading Russian scholars for works on national and world history.

Dr. Usachev, an RSUH graduate of 2001, is the author of more than 250 scholarly works on the history of medieval and early modern Russia, source studies, and historiography. In his monograph, he established facts of the copying of Russian manuscripts from 1500–1600 in over 150 localities and identified more than 470 scribes and over 300 patrons. The 634 book inscriptions published in the second volume provide significant new material on the history of book culture and the socio-economic and political history of 16th-century Russia.
