Patriarch Kirill and Dmitry Chernyshenko Congratulate Russians on the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture

Patriarch Kirill and Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko jointly congratulated Russians at a national concert on Red Square in celebration of the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. Mr. Chernyshenko emphasized the holiday’s importance for preserving the spiritual and cultural traditions of Slavic peoples.

As President Putin says, this holiday reflects our spiritual kinship and shared traditions. Today, we honor the missionary work of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who were not only the creators of our alphabet but also the foundation of our literature and culture,” he said.

Thanks to Slavic writing, he noted, “we preserve and pass down history, raise our children, and instill love for our native language.” Worldwide, 400 million people speak Slavic languages.

He added that this year marks a special anniversary: 80 years since the defense of these values during WWII. “We must also remember today’s heroes who continue defending them,” Chernyshenko said.

He concluded by congratulating Patriarch Kirill on his name day.
