Participant in the operation to free hostages in Beslan visited RSUH

On September 2, in the run-up to the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, a meeting of students and teachers was held at RSUH with the recipient of the Order of Courage, First Vice-President of the Association of "Vympel Group", retired colonel Vladimir Silantyev, a participant in the operation of September 1-3, 2004, which had taken place in School No. 1 in Beslan.

The meeting was opened by Dr. Irakli Bolkvadze. He presented Mr. Silantyev with a letter of gratitude for his active participation in events at RSUH on the prevention of ideology of terrorism and extremism, as well as for holding memorial events with students dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the tragedy in Beslan.

Then Mr. Silantyev spoke about the incomprehensibly brutal crimes of terrorists, about how children, their parents, teachers and staff of School No. 1 had survived in those ill-fated days. He paid special attention to the feat of his fellow soldiers and ordinary citizens who, at the cost of their lives, had freed people from under the rubble and protected them from the terrorists' bullets.

As part of the event, the veteran answered questions and showed a video recording from 01.09.2004, emphasizing that such events wouldhelp raise awareness among the young population of Russia about the issue of terrorism and contribute to the creation of a safer society. The event ended with a moment of silence in memory of all the victims of terrorist attacks.
