The Institute of Oriental and Classical Studies of RSUH regrets to announce that on June 3, 2025, after a prolonged illness, Dr. Eduard Valeryevich Rung, Professor of Ancient History, passed away at the age of 52. Professor Rung was a distinguished scholar of ancient Persia, an expert in ancient Persian cuneiform, and a prominent historian of antiquity.
His passing is an irreparable loss not only to his friends, colleagues, and students but also to Russian historical scholarship. Eduard Valeryevich was widely recognized both in Russia and internationally as a leading specialist on Achaemenid history and Greco-Persian relations in the ancient world. He authored numerous monographs and scholarly articles and was an active member of various academic associations.
We remember him as an open, kind-hearted person with a deep passion for research, who could offer greetings in many ancient languages and was always ready to support those around him, both professionally and personally.
The staff of the Institute extends their sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
