How to motivate yourself to study at home. RSUH experience

Today, students themselves are sharing their impressions of distance learning: what problems they face, how they motivate themselves to study at home and whether they miss face-to-face classes.

I consider “home education” to be just ordinary classes. Although now, when I have to do more, I try to prioritize subjects.

Elina Seredina, Sophomore, Faculty of Culturology

I love online platforms, as they can provide material in a logical sequence. I can definitely say the workload has increased. If in offline training you can read the materials for the seminar and share your point of view orally, now you have to write a lot, and this, of course, takes more time and requires more work.

I do most of the tasks on the tablet, including videoconferencing, so the workspace is the table by the window, with the bare minimum of things: a glass of water, headphones, a tablet and a notebook with a pencil. The advantage of distance learning is the ability to bring your comfort with you. You can attend a seminar without getting up off the couch. But I am all for full-time classes. Live communication is now what I insanely lack, it can not be replaced by an online conference.

Homework and suchlike have doubled and requires more concentration and stamina. I spend an average of about 8 hours per day at my desk.

Nadezhda Bondar, Freshman, Faculty of History, Political Science and Law

During the preparation for the USE all my training took place online. I really liked the new format: I could receive all the necessary information right at home. The current distance learning has given us the opportunity not to be late and get enough sleep. The motivation to learn comes to me naturally. My workplace is organized in such a way that I feel comfortable and keen to study. Teachers do everything to make it convenient for us.

However, the face-to-face classes are definitely much more productive and familiar. Live contact with the teacher and with the group can not be replaced with any online platform. The main disadvantages of online learning is having to sit in front of the computer and be dependent on the stability of the Internet and the technology itself.

I must say that I am totally delighted with distance learning. But this is just a personal emotional impression.

Olga Zharova, Junior, Vygotsky Institute of Psychology

Before, I only took a couple of foreign language lessons online, and it wasn’t very good. With psychology it is the same thing: you can not learn psychology without interacting with real people. I know that there is therapy via Skype, but guys, this is not good. And that's why. When communicating on the Internet we lose about 50% of the information that we could receive even if we had an ideal connection.

Why am I still so pleased with distance learning? Because even during face-to-face classes, we did not have much interaction. Our training was mostly theoretical. And it saves so much time!

They began to give us more homework. But this is all theoretical reading. And since theory is all there is, we have not lost anything, we have only gained. My workplace has not changed in any way, and I could always organize myself with my “A-student syndrome”. In general, there is more time for self-organization and independent education, I’m not afraid to say this, I really like it.

There is a lot of homework - once I had to do a PE task for 4 hours.

Lida Churkina, Freshman, Institute of Philology and History

In my opinion, distance learning is very convenient, because you do not have to spend time on the road. That is why now I get up at 8 in the morning, and not at 5:30, as I used to.

The main temptation of distance learning is its informal setting. Sometimes during an online couple I get distracted by texts from friends and suchlike, but I always return to reality. In general, the amount of work we get now is a plus. Doing the work on my own, and in writing, I feel that I am absorbing more information. Almost all of my teachers have been able to switch to the online format.

And yet I prefer face-to-face classes - there is not enough communication with classmates and teachers, nor are there any extracurricular activities.

Studies have not become more difficult, on the contrary, there is more comfort (you can make tea, you do not need to spend time on the road, which is a huge advantage for me).

Natalia Zhelezova, Freshman, Faculty of International Relations and Foreign Area Studies

Basically, our classes now take place in the format of free discussion on the subject, or we talk about the issues related to our M.A. theses. I can’t say that the workload volume has changed a lot, but it will, most likely, by the final exam period.
