Center for Social Anthropology

The Center trains specialists in the field of social/cultural anthropology (or ethnology) and human ethology. The faculty members of the Center are leading experts in their fields: anthropologists, ethologists, historians, biologists and folklorists, who combine teaching with research and publish their works in Russian and foreign journals.

The educational programs, in addition to social anthropology, include psychological, linguistic and physical-anthropological disciplines, and also ensure a high level of professional English language proficiency upon graduation. The program also includes the study of a second language (European or Eastern) and Latin.

Juniors also learn the language of the people of their selected professional region.

Lectures are often delivered by foreign experts and visiting professors from the Russian Academy of Sciences (Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, the Institute of Oriental Studies, Institute of the Far East, the Institute of Africa, Institute of Information of Social Sciences, etc.).

Our students intern in museums and research institutions of Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as work in the field.
