The Section of Local History and Historical and Cultural Tourism was created in 2007, comprising the Department of Regional History and Local History, the Center for Historical Local History and Moscow Studies and the Department of Moscow Studies, which was created at the same time. In 2008, it included the newly created Center for Excursion Business and Study of Historical Monuments of Moscow. The Section of Local History and Historical and Cultural Tourism coordinated the work of its structural divisions in the field of local history, regional history, Moscow studies, tourism, including educational and teaching activities for the major Local History and Historical Tourism.
The Section was also the base for the Union of Local Historians of Russia, the Moscow Local History Society and the Russian Society for the Study of Crimea. Each year, the Department held a number of academic events, including the All-Russian Local History Readings, the All-Russian Student Conference “Regional History. Local history. Moscow Studies ”, Baranov Readings, Skvortsovsky Church and Local History readings, Moscow Regional History Readings, Museum and Local History Seminar, Theoretical Seminar on Regional and Local History, Crimean Readings , etc.
In 2016, the Section was transformed into the Center for Regional History, Local History and Moscow Studies. The Center provides training for the major “Local History” (track “History”).
