November 12, 2015 RSUH teachers had a meeting with HE Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation.

RSUH teachers had a meeting with HE Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation.

HE Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador, was invited by Prof. Yefim Pivovar, Rector of RSUH and Dr. Anna Matveeva, Rector Assistant.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Primal Fernando, Personal Assistant to the Ambassador, Ms. Natalia Demidova, Assistant to the Ambassador, Alexander Stolyarov, Director of the International Center for South Asian Studies, Indira Gazieva, Deputy Director.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

His Excellency Mr. Dr. Saman Virasinghe speaks fluently in Russian.

He said that diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Russia were established 59 years ago.

During this period about 5,000 students from Sri Lanka got education in Russia and became doctors, linguists, engineers and etc.

He also noted that there is a  department of Russian languageof at the University "Kelaniya".

HE Dr. Saman Virasinghe informed us about the purpose of his visit to RSUH:  the discussion of cultural exchange programs in the field of education; the discussion of the details the signing of MOU between the RSUH and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation; the education of Sri Lankan students in RSUH, the discussion of study periods, forms and specialization; the organization of the Day of  Sri Lanka at RSUH in May, 2016 following by cultural program, tea ceremony and promotional materials of Sri Lanka’s travel agencies; the discussion of further meetings, seminars, round tables and conferences organized for teachers of RSUH and teachers of State University of Colombo and the University of "Kelaniya".

Prof. Efim Pivovar, Rector of RSUH noted that the University is always ready for bilateral relations with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation and welcomed the signing of MOU.

He also stressed that the RSUH has a tradition of training of foreign students, providing to students the bilateral certificates.The university has a good record of successful projects within the framework of the EU  (Tempus, Erasmus Mundus), UN (UNICEF, UNESCO), Council of Europe, British Council, DAAD, the Library of Congress, ACTR  programs, etc. Dual degrees at the M.A. and  the Ph.D. levels are successfully implemented at RSUH with European universities, for examples RSUH, in partnership with Bucknell University (USA), has an ongoing innovative multimedia project RUSS 350 Global Manager in Russia. Its goal is to teach the future managers of Russia and the US to work effectively in the globalized world. Upon completion the graduates are awarded joint certificates.
