"Leo Tolstoy – Mahatma Gandhi. Non-violence is a weapon of the strong".

Students and teachers of RSUH participated in peacemaking socio-cultural event "Leo Tolstoy – Mahatma Gandhi. Non-violence is a weapon of the strong".

The event is held in the framework of international and inter-cultural educational project "Open your good heart» and is devoted to several great events: the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 105th anniversary of the memory of Leo Tolstoy, the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi returned to India to organize non-violent movement against British rule, the 20th anniversary of the memory of Dmitry (Daniel) Ryabichev, the sculptor.

Two Great Men quotations became the epigraph of this event:  Leo Tolstoy ‘s quote was - 'Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself” and Mahatma Gandhi ‘ quote was - “You must be the change you want to see in the world”.

 

The international project "Open your good heart" is held during the Year of Literature in Russia and it is a part of long-term international program "The parade of the creative heritage of the peoples of the BRICS countries."

The organizers were: "The World Traditions»‘s non-profit partnership,   Ryabichev’s Art Studio, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the government of Moscow.

 

RSUH students visited Ryabichev’s Art studio for the first time. This is a platform of creativity where the many creative events are heldand the themes of these events is devoted to  good and non-violence, children drawing contest, charitable cultural and educational projects.

When we came to the Art studio we had a familiar smell of Indian “samosa” and “masala” tea.

We all have worn beautiful scarfs with the colors of the Indian and Russian flags.

There were a lot of students from People Friendship university, RSUH, Moscow State University, the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction University, Financial University, school  pupils etc.

All students and school children were invited to the "Good doll"’ master class, organized by the charity fund “Hurry up for good Deeds!”

RSUH students began to learn new creativity with great enthusiasm – they were sewing the beautiful dolls using different kinds of yarns and materials.

A film about Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy was showed on the stage. There was an exhibition of "Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy: the unique heritage" illustrating their unique correspondence on the topic of non-violence.

The action began with a "moment of silence" in memory of all people who died in terrorist attacks.  It was initiated by Mr. Sammy Kotwani, the guest of honor, the sponsor of this project.

The peacemaking event ended with a proposal to carry out the initiative of the creation of International Day of Goodness on the 9th of September, at the Leo Tolstoy’s birthday.
